As the trees burn red & golden hues in the softening light of Fall and you sit at Summer’s End, you might find yourself with the nostalgic ache of first love and the adolescent desire to make your grand escape together to Mile 3.25 Tidal Inlet. Though those carefree times are just a memory now, there are no better reminiscent companions than a warm flannel and a sweet, smooth cup of coffee. Moonrise is our Autumn ode to those coming-of-age times.
A bit about the coffee – this year we’ve picked a sweet and creamy coffee from Veracruz, Mexico as our Fall release. Grown by Ernesto Perez on his farm San Alfonso, this coffee has subtle notes of sweet papaya upfront that develop into deeper caramel notes. The mellow brightness of the fruit-forward notes balances well with the creamy mouthfeel, which makes this a versatile cup whether you love a fruitier coffee or something to pair with cream and sugar.
This particular lot is a single varietal picking of marsellesa cherries. The marsellesa varietal is a cross between Timor Hybrid 832/2 and Villa Sarchi CIFC 971/10 and was designed for its roya-resistant traits. This coffee from Finca San Alfonso is also distinctive because the farm is found in a region that produces some of the highest-latitude coffee in the world. The northern edge of the tropics has excellent coffee-producing conditions: lower temperatures with wetter conditions, which slows down the ripening of cherries and concentrates the flavors much the same way higher elevation grown coffee does. These conditions result in coffee with an array of amazing flavors ranging from citrus to stone fruit and berries.
